Busy Two Months Coming Up

Good Afternoon Parents and Swimmers,

Unfortunately with weather conditions we have had quite a slow competitive start to the season. During training, swimmers have been working hard with constant enthusiasm. There have been marked improvements in body positions and kicking technique across all squads. Let’s cross our fingers we are coming out of Typhoon season as we have an action packed few months coming up!
Bonifacio Cup – 1st Leg @ MJS – Thursday 9th Oct 3-6pm
Here are the selected swimmers, and attached are their events. Please do not despair if you are not selected, your hard work is being noted and we look forward to you competing in many of the other events throughout the year. Unfortunately the Bonifacio Cup is the first event and only event where we have to select a small squad.
Please email chapmanh@ismanila.org by 10am today if you are unable to attend.

Brent
I am still waiting to find out if Brent are going to reschedule their cancelled meet. At this late stage though it is looking unlikely.
The coaches and I have made the decision not to take a team to the meet on Oct 11th. It is a different format to what has been offered in the past and therefore not suited to our team at this stage.
Time Trial – Friday 17th Oct – 3-5pm

We will hold our second Time Trial on Friday 17th Oct. Please SIGN UP before WED 15th Oct, there will be no late or deck entries. There is no training requirement to attend Time Trials.

Aquathon I (Rescheduled)- Sat 8th Nov

Brent, Kit and Aquathon Info

Good Afternoon Parents and Swimmers,

Brent Information

We advise that all new swimmers join us on the Bus to Brent as it is a good opportunity for Coaches to brief swimmers. If Parents are first timers and unsure where Brent is for this meet only, new Parents may also ride on the bus.

Below are the current lists of those who signed up to ride the bus. Please email me by 10am tomorrow morning if you wish to join us on the Bus.

Morning Session (10yrs and Under as of 1st Jan ’14)

Be at Brent Pool by 7:15am for a 7:30am warm up.

Bus riders must be at ISM ES Playground before 6:30am, if you are not there the bus will leave without you.

If you have any problems on Sat Morning please contact Hazel 0915 294 4800

Afternoon Session (11yrs and Over as of 1st Jan ’13)

Be at Brent Pool by 12:15pm for a 12:30pm warm up.

Bus riders must be at ISM ES Playground before 10:30am, if you are not there the bus will leave without you.

If you have any problems on Sat Morning please contact Hazel 0915 294 4800

What swimmers should bring

Swim suit (if you were not able to get a Sailfish suit their own is fine)

Goggles (two pairs if they have them)

Sailfish Swim Cap (any spare if they have one)

Sailfish Team T-shirt

Towel

Plenty of dry clothes in separate plastic bags (the pool is covered, the deck area gets very wet after a while so often clothes can get damp. Swimmers should be trying to keep dry and warm between events)

Plenty of water (no caffeine drinks)

If they have not had breakfast, send it in a packed lunch (stick to regular routine breakfasts). Same applies for Lunch with afternoon swimmers.

Snacks (nothing too heavy, processed, sugary or fatty) good snack options are Fruit, small sandwiches.

Parents

If you are coming to support, great!

Make sure you also have snacks and drinks (although the canteen should be open).

It can be a long day as an observer when your child is only swimming for a few events of the meet.

Bring things that will help you feel comfortable.

If you have any questions during the day please try to direct them to me, rather than the other Coaches, they will be extremely busy keeping an eye on the swimmers, I will try to visit the parent viewing section a couple of times to check if there are any concerns or questions.

Most importantly please make sure swimmers are all staying at the Sailfish Team area, they do not want to miss their marshaling call.

You may like to go over the Meet Guidelines however it is a lot of information, do not panic, coaches are there to help, we know this may be your first meet and nerves are high.

Kit Sale – Friday 19th 2:30-3:30pm

Barb and Amy have very kindly agreed to open the kit store once more on Friday for those who missed out last week.

Please be aware the following Speedo Suit sizes are out of stock: Girls 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 38 & Boys 30, 32

Please be reminded you can only exchange receipts from the cashiers office for goods there is no cash exchange.

3. On the day of the Swimathon, each swimmer MUST have an adult lap counter/ supervisor, to keep track of the number of laps completed.  Swimmers will not be able to swim if they don’t have an adult supervisor.  Each group will swim during a specified period in our pool.  Each lap is 25 meters.

RAIN DOES NOT CAUSE SICKNESS

I had a swimmer remark to me at training this week that we should not swim in the rain because rain makes you sick.

This is incorrect, rain does not make you sick, often sickness occurs in the winter or during the wet season, which happens to coincides with the Flue Season.  A phenomenon that occurs world wide, when the seasons strain of influence is passed from person to person,  rain does not spread sickness.

During the wet season the incidence of mosquito bites increases because mosquitoes lay their eggs in still water. Rain causes puddles, mosquitoes lay eggs and the number of mosquitoes increase.  Again rain does not spread disease, mosquitoes do.

We will train in the rain, e will not swim if there is lightening.

Rain does not make you sick, yet lightening can kill you.
